In response to a shortage of personal protection equipment (PPE) for frontline workers combating COVID-19, Louis Vuitton has converted five of its workshops in France—in Marsaz, Saint-Donat, Saint-Pourçain, Ducey, and Sainte-Florence—into production sites for non-surgical protective masks.
“As an important French House, Louis Vuitton wishes to commit at its level to producing many thousands of masks that will be distributed within the region, at no charge, to protect those who are most exposed,” said brand CEO Michael Burke. “This production is the fruit of a wonderful collaboration with the regional sector of the textile industry.”
In partnership with textile brand Mode Grand Ouest, the house—with the help of artisan volunteers—Louis Vuitton has been able to manufacture hundreds of thousands of masks, which have already been donated to healthcare workers in need.
On Friday, April 10, the house also announced the dedication of its rue du Pont Neuf ready-to-wear atelier to the crafting of hospital gowns, to be donated to the city’s Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris.
