Last Sunday, Louis Vuitton and the fashion house’s CEO Michael Burke hosted a garden party at its historic atelier in Asnières. Located on the Seine just south of Paris, the atelier was once the home of Mr. Louis Vuitton, and is still an active workshop of the masion (in fact, it was the only one until 1977). Guests gathered for lunch to celebrate the opening of Asnières’ new Galerie and inaugural exhibition, curated by Judith Clark.
The Galerie explores the rich heritage of the Louis Vuitton’s creative process and the Asnières atelier’s history as the center of the Maison. The exhibition explores themes of travel, craftsmanship, customization, art, and the avant-garde. Those who attended the opening party included Suzy Menkes, Derek Blasberg, Caroline Issa, Michelle Williams, and Emmanuel Perrotin, exploring the two-story space filled with vintage trunks and had the chance to see the first handbag ever made in the workshop.
The Galerie at Asnières is open by invite-only.
