In celebration of the 10th anniversary of MB&F, the watchmaker collaborated with luxury music box maker Reuge and designer Xin Wang to make the MusicMachine 3. The main influence for the MusicMachine3 is the TIE-fighter from the Star Wars films. Between the two wings, it plays the Star Wars theme song as well as those from James Bond, Mission Impossible, The Godfather, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, and The Persuaders.
The shape of the structure helps to amplify the sounds. The sound waves bounce off the wings and are then spun around and rotated by the centercylinder. Using flat combs, fan regulators, a unique type of wooden soundboard, winding keys and mainspring barrels, the device produces music as its own complex instrument. It also features a rare, 350-year-old wooden resonance spruce with timber from the Risoud Forest in Switzerland. When it plays music, the delicate pieces can be seen moving.
Reuge is the only remaining manufacturer of high-end music boxes in the world, and there are only a select few of this specific model of MusicMachines for sale: 33 were made with a white finish, 33 with a black finish, and 33 in chrome.
