Mimi Foundation Gala and Auction at Sotheby’s London

On Wednesday in London, the Mimi Foundation hosted a gala fundraiser to raise money for Myriam Ullens’ cancer charity. Over £1,350,000 was raised thanks to an auction of artwork donated by some of the worlds’ most prominent contemporary artists. Long time friend of Ullens, Simon de Pury, effectively conducted the auction.

Some works of note included a piece by Sterling Ruby made specifically for the event which went for £185,000, Yan Pei-Ming’s Portrait of HRH The Prince of Wales which reached £302,500, and a pupil portrait by Marc Quinn that went for £194,500.

Among guests in attendance were artists Tracey Emin and Marc Quinn, Prince Pierre d’Arenberg, Sheikha Hoor Al-Qasimi, Nicolai Frahm, Xavier Hufkens, Bruno Wang, Jimmy Lahoud, as well as designer John Pawson, and Director of the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing Phil Tinari, as well as many other collectors and gallerists and leading cultural figures.

Another auction will take place today, Friday, October 18, with works by Thomas Houseago, Liu Wei, Lionel Esteve, Entang Wiharso, Eko Nugroho, Ramin Haerizadeh, Zhan Wang, MADEIN, Liu Xiaodong, Qiu Zhijie, Rong Rong, and Yang Shaobin.
