As Salone del Mobile comes to a close, Whitewaller Milan recommends sticking around Europe this week, and heading to the second edition of NOMAD Monaco held at the breathtaking Villa La Vigie. There is plenty to do and see during Monaco Art Week in and around the invitation-only fair. Here are our recommendations on where to stay and what to eat.
HOTELS
Hotel Metropole
Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Hotel Metropole was constructed in 1886. After a full renovation in 2004 by the designer Jacques Garcia, and a reinvention of the communal spaces in 2017, the hotel has welcomed guests to an atmosphere of sophistication and glamour. To complement the 126 rooms and 64 suites, the hotel also offers a lobby bar, four restaurants, six meeting rooms, a pool (with its surrounding area designed by Karl Lagerfeld), and a spa.
Whitewaller recommends: Visiting the Spa Metropole by Givenchy.
Monte Carlo Beach Club
In 1929, Roger Seassal completed the design for the Monte-Carlo Beach—and the rest is history. Seemingly carved into the Monte-Carlo coastline, the Art Deco–style hotel has a subdued simplicity and elegance. Guests will find new experiences at each of the establishment’s dining and relaxation destinations, including Elsa, Le Deck, La Vigie, the Pizzeria, and the hotel’s 300 cabanas and solariums.
Whitewaller recommends: Asking for Chef Paolo Sari’s recommendation.
RESTAURANTS
Song Qi
In creating Song Qi, Riccardo Giraudi, a native of Monaco, was inspired by Shanghai in the 1930s. Asian flavors meet Mediterranean products for a mix of tradition and modernity. The space, designed by the Parisian firm Humbert & Poyet, also shines for its noble materials and contemporary feel.
Whitewaller recommends: Enjoying the Jasmine Tea Smoked Pork Ribs.
Beef Bar
Another impeccable offering by Riccardo Giraudi, Beefbar has been welcoming meat lovers to this location since 2005. Notable for its elegant architecture, gorgeous views, and an unforgettable culinary experience, the restaurant prides itself on simplicity and high-quality ingredients.
Whitewaller recommends: Checking out The Butcher Shop after your meal.
