PAMM, Il Gabbiano, and Smith & Wollensky: Jeff Lawson’s Miami

Katy Donoghue

30 November 2016

For the Whitewaller Miami issue, out this week for Art Basel in Miami Beach, we handpicked a few insiders—a select group of those in-the-know on all things Miami—that shared with us how to navigate the city this fall. Here we have, founder of the Untitled art fair Jeff Lawson, share his top spots to eat, drink, network, and relax this week.

WHERE TO EAT
I really like Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink for lunch, Il Gabbiano in downtown Miami for a great Italian, and I can’t go to Miami without going to Graziano’s in Coral Gables.

WHERE TO SIP
This is a touristy stop, but I really like Smith & Wollensky. It is a great place to sit outside by the water and watch all the boat traffic. And you can’t beat On the Rocks Sports Bar in North Beach—it’s very low key.

WHERE TO SEE ART
The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is one of the most amazing museums I have visited anywhere in the world. Herzog and de Meuron created a world-class building that is a great backdrop to see shows. The programming there is getting better and better, and Franklin Sirmans is doing a terrific job with the museum.

WHERE TO HAVE FUN
It is always great to get out on the water. There is nothing better than a day out on a boat in the bay or fishing in the ocean.

WHERE TO RELAX
Miami is a busy town, so I find the best way to relax is with friends, sitting by the pool, or out on a boat.

TOP SHOWS TO SEE IN MIAMI
Untitled, of course. Aside from Art Basel Miami Beach and NADA, I am excited to see Ugo Rondinone’s Miami Mountain as a permanent installation in the park. I am also looking forward to Ulla von Brandenburg at PAMM.
