Last night in Miami, Whitewall kicked off Art Week at The Miami Beach EDITION, where we hosted with Nanzuka a celebration for Parley for the Oceans’s collaboration with the artist Keiichi Tanaami. Nestled in the corner of the idyllic property at The Sandbox, the intimate gathering saw guests like Shinji Nanzuka, Cecile Raubenheimer, Charlotte Desaga, and Sara Jaurequi, mingling over rosé and a sumptuous selection of bites like fine cheeses and vegetable crudité in the presence of Tanaami’s work.

Supporting Parley’s Global Cleanup Network, the foundation invited Tanaami to imagine a series of bespoke surfboards, which saw the artist’s engrossing pop art signature applied to four colorful board designs—titled Indulge in Fantasies, Another World, Contact with Light, and Sign of the Incident. “Light is a source of inspiration to me. I often have dreams of whirling light rolling me in, which makes me feel wonderful,” said Tanaami. “The surfboard is a beautiful shape with a slight swell and was a dreamy medium. It is a wonder that my works on the surfboards look nicer.”
Made in a limited series of 20, the boards have been constructed with Firewire utilizing Timbertech Ecoboard-certified techniques including responsible wood and bio-resin, aligning with Parley’s mission for ocean conservation and sustainability efforts. The sale of the Tokyo-based artist’s work will see proceeds donated back to the cause, which includes plastic removal from beaches and water, as well as education and awareness campaigns.

On display in the sandy oasis at The EDITION, Tanaami’s boards made the perfect backdrop for the event, falling in line with Parley’s love for the ocean and message of responsibility and awareness. The elegant outdoor affair saw guests leaving with special t-shirts featuring Tanaami’s artwork and copies of Whitewaller Miami in hand.
