Last night, Dustin Yellin‘s Pioneer Works hosted its third annual Village Fête, which raised over $1 million toward the organization’s programming. The evening was presented by Google, and celebrated Pioneer Works’ progressive projects. On site for guests like Derrick Adams, Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz, David Byrne, Fab 5 Freddy, Jonah Freeman, Justin Lowe, Prabal Gurung, Maggie Gyllenhaal & Peter Sarsgaard, Wes Gordon, Jemima Kirke, Alexander Gilkes, Kyle Hotchkiss Carone, Monica Lewinsky, Anne Pasternak, Hank Willis Thomas, and more, were virtual reality stations to paint and sculpt using the Tilt Brush App while imbibing on champagne by Ruinart, cocktails by Bombay Sapphire Gin, and other beverages from the rooftop Stella Artois bar. Before dinner, attendees got a chance to check out Pioneer Works‘ artist-in-residence studios and participate in a silent auction with work by Carol Bove, Mickalene Thomas, Rashid Johnson, Anish Kapoor, Shirin Neshat, Cindy Sherman, and others.
At long tables complete with florals by Saipua, a meal prepared by Silkstone of lamb, fregola sarda, roasted bass, and zucchini served family-style, was enjoyed underneath Molly Lowe‘s Redwood installation hanging from above. Paddle8‘s Alexander Gilkes emceed the night, introducing First Lady of New York Chirlane McCray, who discussed Google’s Made With Code program for young women, coming to Pioneer Works this July. Also this summer will be an exhibition by Derrick Adams, opening June 10. Gilkes then lead a live auction, highlighted by host committee member Swizz Beatz bidding on a work by Yellin. To end the fête, was the after party, which included a performance by Cibo Matta, Nels Cline, Chances with Wolves, and Javelin.
