Preview Storm King’s Fifth Annual Gala & Auction

By Emory Lopiccolo

October 7, 2014

Storm King Art Center will host their Fifth Annual Gala Dinner and Live Auction this Wednesday at the Four Seasons Restaurant. The event will honor the Alexander S. C. Rower & the Calder Foundation. Prominent artists and patrons such as Rainer Judd, Adam Weinberg, Cynthia Posky, Fairfax Dorn, Martin and Jeanne Puryear, Mark di Suvero, Sarah Sze, and Doug and Mike Starn will be in attendance for the gala. Along with smaller works installed inside the Four Seasons for the event, three major Calder sculptures will be on display—one of which has never before been seen in New York—outside the Seagram Building to celebrate Storm King Art Center’s long-standing relationship with the Calder Foundation. A seated dinner will accompany the live auction after the cocktail reception.

Auctioneer David Redden of Sotheby’s will be presiding over the live auction. Artwork up for auction includes Calder’s Balloon Barrage, Richard Serra’s Line Heat, and Zhang Huan’s Drawing of Three Legged Buddha No. 1, as well as other works by artists such as Holton Rower, George Rickey, and Dan Budnik.
