On August 1 in Aspen, the art world gathered for a the start of many events surrounding ArtCrush 2019. Each year, the Aspen Art Museum kicks off the celebratory week with an artist talk—led by the Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and director, Heidi Zuckerman, and with the annual recipient of the Aspen Award for Art. So on Thursday, Zuckerman sat down with Lisa Yuskavage, this year’s recipient of the award, to touch upon Yuskavage’s artistic practice and to hear about her upcoming solo exhibition “Wilderness” (February 11–May 31, 2020) at the museum.
Following the talk was PreviewCrush at Baldwin Gallery and PreviewExtra at Casterline | Goodman Gallery—the week’s coveted previews of the works included in the silent and live auctions, hosted by the galleries’ owners. The preview receptions are also prime opportunities to meet many of the artists over cocktails, and chat more about their practice and current happenings elsewhere.
After the preview, guests made their way back to AAM for a picnic-style dinner on the museum’s roof deck, SO Café, hosted by AAM National Council member June Schorr, AAM Board member Paul Schorr III, and AAM National Council members Denise Monteleone and Jim Martin. Over cocktails and serve-yourself plates, live music and art-forward conversation, guests from all over the globe geared up for the festive weekend ahead.
