Salumeria 104, ICA, and The Raleigh: Helen Toomer’s Miami

By Eliza Jordan

November 22, 2016

For the Whitewaller Miami issue, out next week for Art Basel in Miami Beach, we handpicked a few insiders—a select group of those in-the-know on all things Miami—that shared with us how to navigate the city this fall. Here, we have Helen Toomer, Director at PULSE, share her top spots to eat, drink, network, and relax this week.

WHERE TO EAT
I love Salumeria 104, and they will be providing my favorite meat and cheese plates for our VIPs in our VIP Lounge. For a special treat, The Bazaar by José Andrés is a magical taste explosion!

WHERE TO SIP
I’m always seduced by the old school charm of The Raleigh, and having a fancy cocktail under the fairy lights by the pool is a must in Miami. My new favorite for a more chilled out vibe and local beer is Campton Yard at the newly developed hotel The Hall.

WHERE TO SEE ART
PULSE Miami Beach! Sorry, but I had to… There’s so much to see in Miami, from museums like PAMM and ICA, to private collections like the de la Cruz and the Rubell Family, and the salon-style hangings at the Soho Beach House and mammoth sculptures at the Faena Hotel.

WHERE TO HAVE FUN
Miami, by definition, is fun! It has such a different energy to anywhere else in the world, people are friendly, and there seems to be a growing audience looking for more meaningful cultural exchanges.

WHERE TO RELAX
The beach. It’s beautiful, and although my feet barely touch the sand during PULSE, just knowing that it’s there makes for a more calming and enjoyable experience.

TOP SHOWS TO SEE IN MIAMI
I can’t wait to check out Susan Hiller’s multi- media installation which is a “voice collage” of endangered languages at PAMM. ICA is presenting the work of Thomas Bayrle, which explores the impact of technology on human beings, is the last exhibition in its current home, and utilizes all four floors.
