Last Friday saw the sixth annual MTV RE:DEFINE benefit. The gala, auction, and exhibition curated by Neville Wakefield was presented by The Joule, in partnership with the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, The Goss-Michael Foundation, and Dallas Contemporary. The night, hosted at the museum, was a success raising over $2.7 million.
This year’s event was hosted by Joyce Goss and Kenny Goss, chaired by Maxine Trowbridge, with co-chairs Jerome Sans and CJ Jones. MC for the night was Oli Barrett, who helped to honor artist Eric Fischl and fashion designer Johnson Hartig. And to cap off festivities was a performance by Grammy Award-winning Chaka Khan.
To commemorate the late George Michael, a special tribute video was played, and artist Damien Hirst donated a one-of-a-kind piece to the auction that went for $580,000 during the live auction conducted by Christie’s President Brook Hazelton. Other works in the live and silent sale were contributed by Tracey Emin, Ian Davenport, Bernar Venet, Richard Phillips, Boris Mikhailov, Ross Bleckner, Ilya & Emilia Kabakov, Daniel Arsham, Francesco Clemente, Billy Childish, Michael Craig-Martin, Shepard Fairey, John Houck, Harland Miller, Jose Parla, Enoc Perez, Paola Pivi, Laercio Redondo, Pedro Reyes, Ugo Rondinone, Wilhelm Sasnal, Blair Thurman, Bruce Weber, and more.
