Solange Ignites The Armory Party at MoMA

Last Night, The Museum of Modern Art hosted The Armory Party, an annual benefit event that celebrates the opening of The Armory Show and raises money for MoMA and MoMA PS1’s exhibition program.

Held in MoMA’s Agnes Gund Garden Lobby, the evening included music by DJ Harley Viera-Newton and a live performance by Solange Knowles. Solange performed her hit single “Losing You” and other songs to a sophisticated group of art worlders and fashionistas.

We arrived just as the massive crowds of “I-know-so-and-so’s” began to form and demand entry to the coveted event that carried a $150 ticket price. Before we had a chance to grab a cocktail, rumors began to swirl that Beyonce might perform. We didn’t believe it, so we found the perfect spot for drink grabbing, people gazing, and Solange watching, the ultimate event trifecta.

After what felt like one hundred “It’s so good to see yoooou’s,” Solange hit the stage. Tall and beautiful, she gave a great performance, one that engaged the crowd, with many singing along to her lyrics and dancing to the music.

But, attention spans diminished at a rapid pace once Jay-Z and Beyonce made an appearance. Trying their very best to be low-key on the second floor of the museum, it didn’t take long for guests to turn in their direction to do what we suspect was a lot of tweeting and Instagramming. But, like most celebs at big events, they were there one second and gone the next.

As Solange wrapped up and Harley Viera-Newton went into her next set, we headed for coat check, and who did we see on our way out? Our favorite person from 7th Heaven, Jessica Biel. Hey girl.
