Sotheby’s celebrated the Studio Museum in Harlem with a dinner and exhibition preview last night in New York. The evening was in support of “Creating Space: Artists for The Studio Museum in Harlem,” the upcoming auction on May 16 and 17 at the auction house, benefiting the museum’s new building on 125thStreet.
Throughout the spring, 42 prominent artists with close ties to the museum’s mission donated works for the sale, including Mark Bradford, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, and Sam Gilliam among others.
Also marking the museum’s 50thanniversary, the dinner was preceded by a cocktail reception and private viewing of sale highlights in Sotheby’s York Avenue Galleries hosted by Sotheby’s Global Head of Business Development Valentino D. Carlotti and Head of Museum Services & Single Owner Sales Nina Del Rio with support from the Studio Museum Director Thelma Golden.
