On Tuesday, the large-scale installation by artist Sun Xun was unveiled in Miami Beach on the oceanfront across from Collins Park between 21st and 22nd Streets. The project is a result of the second annual Audemars Piguet Art Commission.
“The Audemars Piguet Art Commission supports artists in the creation of works of exceptional complexity and craftsmanship, and we’re delighted to celebrate the unveiling of Sun Xun’s installation tonight. The immensity of this project was clear from the start, but the more you look at it and talk to the artist, the more you want to look at it again: every time you see something different which makes the whole experience unique,” said Olivier Audemars, Vice Chairman of the Board of Audemars Piguet, welcoming some 1,100 guests at the debut event.
The multi-media artist was also present, saying, “It has been very interesting to work on the Audemars Piguet Art Commission, one of my most complex projects to date. I have drawn upon years of experience and worked with a team of over 100 art students to realize this artwork, and I am pleased to see that what I imagined on paper here exactly one year ago has now taken shape.”
The immersive installation, Reconstruction of the Universe, brings together traditional craft with today’s technology, and was created in collaboration with Sean Kelly Gallery, ShanghART Gallery, and Edouard Malingue Gallery.
Guests—like brand ambassadors Serena Williams and Katie Holmes—were invited to experience the project while sipping a selection of Pommery champagnes and enjoying music from DJ Martin Solveig.
