The 2023 Brooklyn Artists Ball Honors Carrie Mae Weems, presented by Dior

By Pearl Fontaine

April 28, 2023

Tuesday evening in New York the 2023 Brooklyn Artists Ball took place at the Brooklyn Museum, made possible by maison Dior. Held in honor of the artist Carrie Mae Weems, the elegant benefit raised funds for the museum and its programming with an evening of food, drinks, and entertainment.

The evening kicked off with cocktails in an immersive environment of art by Mickalene Thomas. The artist was inspired by Weems’s “Slow Fade to Black” series from 2010 for the installation of larger-than-life black-and-white imagery. Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior Women’s Creative Director joined the Brooklyn Museum Director, Anne Pasternak, along with other names from the worlds of art and entertainment including Natalia Dyer, Derek Blasberg, Shohei Shigematsu, Mariane Ibrahim, Thomas Doherty, Charlie Heaton, and Maggie Gyllenhall.

With a nod to Monsieur Christian Dior, who was an aesthete and devout patron of the arts, the evening was all about elevating creativity, right down to the table décor. Guests dined at gorgeous banquet tables featuring artwork-adorned plates, accented by vibrant spring floral installations in pinks and purples. Following a sumptuous meal and a performance by the singer Celeste, the evening came to a close with the Artist Ball After Party, where the Brooklyn Museum Trustee and musician Swizz Beatz provided the entertainment.
