The Brooklyn Museum’s Annual Artists Ball

Last Wednesday, the Brooklyn Museum’s held its annual gala, the Brooklyn Artists BallAi Weiwei, Jenny Holzer, and Kehinde Wiley made up the group of artist honorees at the benefit gala. Jane and David Walentas, philanthropist and real estate moguls, were honored at the gala, as well.

Dinner was quite a unique affair. Guests dined on 40 foot long tables, each with site specific installations acting as centerpieces created by sixteen selected artists including Nina Katchadourian, Orly Genger, Oliver Clegg, and OLEK. They worked in mediums like lobster ropes, colorful yarn bombing, doughnuts, and carefully designed wood panels.

In addition to a silent auction, the evening also held a private preview of “Ai Weiwei:According to What?” The after party included a special performance by Le1f and music stylings from DJ Brenmar. An edible installation by the Flour Shop’s Amirah Kassem contributed to some late night snacking.
