The Richard Bernstein Suite

The Ritz-Carlton NoMad Celebrates Pride with Art by Richard Bernstein

Throughout the month of June, The Ritz-Carlton NoMad x Richard Bernstein suite is available on the 34th floor to celebrate Pride month, with proceeds donated to the Tyler Clementi Foundation.

This month in New York City, The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad offers a one-of-a-kind immersive art suite, created in collaboration with  Richard Bernstein’s estate. To celebrate Pride month, the Pop art icon’s work takes us up one full suite on the hotel’s thirty-fourth floor, treating overnight guests to a room full of some of Bernstein’s most known artwork—from his technicolor portraits of celebrities to Interview magazines.

“I am thrilled to partner with The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad this Pride Month,” said Rory Trifon, President of The Estate of Richard Bernstein. “This collaboration is an incredible tribute to my uncle Richard Bernstein’s captivating spirit. He was unapologetically himself and through his art he brought this spirit out in his subjects which is why we felt the work of the Tyler Clementi Foundation would be a perfect way to honor him and support the cultural and artistic queer landscape today.”

Walking in, visitors can visually see how the suite celebrates Bernstein’s larger-than-life work and persona, with some of Bernstein’s most distinctive pieces on the walls, including Radiance, Rainbow Jello Heart, Grace Jones, and Bianca Jagger; and masks of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor created by Bernstein in 1974 for Diana Vreeland’s “Romantic and Glamorous Hollywood Design” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala.

Furthermore, a plush Henzel Studio hand-woven rug dresses the floor, mimicking the artist’s Black Jello Heart artwork; a 1978 copy of Interview magazine complements the coffee table; a scannable QR code leads to a curated playlist of 1970s and ‘80s tunes, and photographs of Richard Bernstein from his time in his Chelsea studio are stationed on each of the bedside tables. Elevating the suite and the hotel partnership are two shoppable items: a brand-new Loewe x Divine Richard Bernstein Handbag and two pairs of the Stubbs & Wootton x Richard Bernstein Loafers

The immersive experience also includes an exclusive in-room dining menu, curated by the hotel. Paying tribute to the artist’s eclectic tastes, the offerings begin with Dom Perignon Vintage 2012 champagne and caviar with potato chips. Then, his sister’s roast chicken and Jello heart pastries—inspired by his mother’s go-to Jello recipe, which later sparked his artwork series—complements a side of chickpeas, an ode to the famous artist haunt Max’s Kansas City.

As the sun sets beyond daisy arrangements by FLOWERBX, a breathtaking view of downtown New York flickers like twinkling lights. A Ritz-Carlton robe embroidered with Richard Bernstein’s signature awaits in the bathroom; a DIY paint kit is set up in at the bedroom table; and a copy of the Rizzoli-published Richard Bernstein Starmaker: Andy Warhol’s Cover Artist book awaits for nighttime reading.

In Support of the Tyler Clementi Foundation

Throughout the month of June, sales from the Richard Bernstein suite support Tyler Clementi Foundation—an organization established in 2010 in memory of Tyler Clementi who died by suicide after a cyberbullying incident. The mission is to prevent all forms of bullying, harassment, and intimidation, and support the LGBTQ+ community beyond the screen.

“We commend The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad for their month-long celebration of Pride with this amazing immersive suite experience showcasing the notable works of Richard Bernstein,” said Jane Clementi, CoFounder and CEO of the Tyler Clementi Foundation. “We are especially grateful to receive a portion of the proceeds, which will go towards helping us carry on our mission of ending online and offline bullying in schools, workplaces, and faith communities. Thank you for helping us build a world where all diversity is celebrated. A world where people are valued, respected, and acknowledged not despite their differences, but rather because our differences make us unique and so very precious! Happy Pride!”
