This week, we’re covering EXPO Chicago and its surrounding events. To give you an insider look at the city, we’re talking to a few exceptional locals who are sharing their favorite spots to dine, drink, relax, and see art at. Below, we hear from Chefs John Shields and Karen Urie Shields, co-owners of Smyth and The Loyalist.
WHERE TO EAT AND SIP:
We’re huge fans of Roister whenever we have a night off. Grant [Achatz] is a genius in the kitchen and he nails the casual fare there just as much as at Alinea. Le Bouchon for a date night because it’s where we had one of our first dates together. Our bartender Kirill has some great cocktails downstairs at The Loyalist, but if we’re going out for a drink, you can’t beat Deliah’s. It’s a classic!
WHERE TO SEE ART:
With two young girls, we don’t see as much art nowadays, but they love the Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium for our days out as a family.
WHERE TO RELAX AND HAVE FUN:
A lot of our time off is spent at The Farm, but we love to go to the beach as a family too. You can’t beat Lake Michigan in the summertime!
