For those in town for L.A. Art Week, Whitewall curated a list of best hotels to stay at. Here, we’re sharing details on the best hotels in Los Angeles, from the Santa Monica Proper Hotel to The Hollywood Roosevelt and more.

The Maybourne Beverly Hills

From the leading Maybourne Hotel Group—responsible for icons like Claridge’s and The Connaught in London—the new Maybourne Beverly Hills is its very first property in North America, featuring 201 rooms and 55 suites. Located in Beverly Hills’s famous Golden Triangle, the inside features an array of gorgeous amenities, including a spectacular bar within the center of the hotel imagined by interior designer André Fu. Shimmering in Turkish green onyx, the sultry hotspot offers exclusive cocktails and delicious culinary innovations. If the weather is right, and it usually is, guests may take advantage of the outdoor Terrace restaurant, overlooking breathtaking, sweet-smelling gardens while tucking into the freshest California-inspired dishes.

For those looking for a relaxing afternoon, enjoy a sumptuous meal on the terrace before having a nightcap in the moody, wood-draped Cigar and Whiskey Bar, which boasts a cigar and whiskey collection that rivals any in the world.

Whitewaller recommends: During L.A. Art Week 2024, an exhibition entitled “Beryl Cook Takes Los Angeles (February 26–March 31) is on view. Works by the beloved British artist, famed for her witty take on social realism, were curated by the New York-based gallery,  A Hug From The Art World

Santa Monica Proper Hotel

In June 2019, luxury lifestyle hit Santa Monica with the Santa Monica Proper Hotel. For the elegance-at-ease hotel, featuring 271 guest rooms and suites, the designer Kelly Wearstler imagined a space where guests can explore gorgeous design details and a selection of unmissable furniture and art. The hotel boasts an array of outlets, including Palma, a lobby bar lounge; Calabra, a rooftop pool restaurant; and Onda, the neighborhood restaurant.

For a relaxing weekend on the coast, guests can book a calming appointment at Surya Spa—with wellness and treatment options ranging from sound baths and yoga classes to facials and healthy cooking classes. And for those that prefer to keep their stay a little upbeat, the hotel offers an array of lively programming, including happy hour from Monday through Thursday from 4-6 p.m., a Palma x Ruinart weekend brunch, HIIT workout classes, and more.

Whitewaller recommends: For those who wish to stay plugged into the hotel’s many features and offerings throughout their stay, it’s encouraged to download the Proper app.

The Hoxton, Downtown LA

The Hoxton

Situated where South Park meets the Fashion District and Broadway’s Historic Core, The Hoxton, Downtown LA brings the dynamic streets and scenes of Los Angeles into a hotel dedicated to authentically its surrounding neighborhood. From the art on their walls to their open-house lobby, every aspect of The Hoxton is tied together by a commitment to community and Angeleno culture. The Hox Friends initiative gathers a group of locals to help select titles for the rooms’ bookshelves and collect a slew of neighborhood tips for guests. The Hoxton works with local creatives to put together monthly events curated for the Los Angeles community.

The Hoxton is home to 174 rooms, two restaurants, two bars, four meeting and event spaces, and a rooftop and pool. Moonlark’s Dinette on the ground floor is a nostalgic American diner, and Cabra, on the rooftop, is their spirited Peruvian restaurant. The Apartment’s flexible meeting and event space features a communal kitchen pantry that transforms into a bar at night. The hotel’s bookable Working From_ workspaces offer desks with a view, good service, and reasonable rates.

The Hoxton brand is known for its open-house hotels where locals are welcome to make use of the comfy seats and cozy corners of their lobbies. The Downtown LA location is the ninth hotel for the London-based brand, which has laid down roots in Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and a myriad of cities around the world.

Whitewaller recommends: Soaking up the sunlight and vibrant energy of downtown LA at Cabra while enjoying the best views of Broadway.

The Hollywood Roosevelt

For those seeking luxury and exclusivity in Los Angeles, The Hollywood Roosevelt offers an opulent oasis in the heart of Hollywood. This Los Angeles Historical Cultural Monument and Historic Hotel of America has long been known as the epicenter for industry elites with its evocations of the glamour and prestige of golden-age Hollywood. You might recognize the hotel’s famous marquee sign from movies like Almost Famous (2000) and Catch Me If You Can (2002).

The Hollywood Roosevelt’s rooms offer stunning views of the Hollywood Hills, with a range of real estate from retro poolside cabana rooms and chic tower rooms to the newly redesigned penthouses—The Gable and Lombard Penthouse and The Johnny Grant Apartment. Guests can swim in a million-dollar work of art by acclaimed painter David Hockney in the Tropicana Pool or indulge in one of the hotel’s myriad of dining options, from the trendy Rosy Café by the poolside to the vibrant dining experience at Shirley Brasserie, and renowned spots like The Spare Room, the Library Bar, and the recently revived Cinegrill Theater.

This month, The Hollywood Roosevelt recently unveiled the transformation of its two penthouse suites, The Gable and Lombard Penthouse and The Johnny Grant Apartment, headed by Los Angeles-based designer Kevin Klein. Each penthouse sprawls across over 2,000 square feet, with rich Italian marbles, dark stained walnut and oak wall panels, and hand-painted ceiling murals. Furniture and décor were sourced from over 25 countries, with pieces dating back over 200 years.

Whitewaller recommends: Toasting to the stars of Cinegrill Theater’s live show of the night as you wine and dine.
