Tourbillons and Skeletons from Piaget and Greubel Forsey

The Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie(SIHH) took place last week in Geneva. It was the 25th edition of the watch fair exhibiting new novelties from 16 Richemont watch maisons. We’re still working our way through the impressive showing, and will be highlight several standouts this week.

Piaget put forth the Emperador Coussin 1270S Ultra-thin Tourbillon Automatic Skeleton. The marvelous model, measuring just 8.85 mm thick, encompasses a 5.05 mm cushion-shaped tourbillon skeleton specifically for the case that houses it. A part of the Black Tie collection, Piaget released two exclusive versions: modern white gold and classic pink gold with gold movements. Piaget has perpetuated the original design since the 1970s, but this time around, it reached surprisingly slim heights.

The Tourbillon 24 Seconds Vision proved to be the star of Greubel Forsey’s presentation this year, and fit in perfectly with their signature balance of art and science. This collection places the timepiece underneath a sapphire crystal dome, a first for the brand. In doing so, a greater volume for the tourbillon cage to overlap the surface of the operation bridges is created. In addition, the watchmaker has signed each bridge. Through 288 parts of unique composition, color, visual dynamics, and placement, the white-gold, 72-hour chronometric power-reserve Tourbillon 24 Seconds is an exceptional timepiece.
