This year is the 15th anniversary of (RED), the organization founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver to fight the AIDS epidemic. To mark the occasion, and (RED)’s ongoing efforts now against COVID-19, as well, Louis Vuitton has created a unique item, up for bid through March 4 on Sothebys.com.
Louis Vuitton’s men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh has personally signed a one-of-a-kind sneaker, the Louis Vuitton I (RED) LV Trainer Prototype. “As a designer I am really proud to use creativity and design to spur positive change. This partnership with (RED) to auction my Louis Vuitton I (RED) LV Trainer sneakers at Sotheby’s aims to help to fight against AIDS and COVID,” said Abloh.

“Virgil’s creative genius and support of (RED)’s work is an inspiring example of how art and philanthropy can come together to make a real impact. (RED) is honored to partner with Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh and the Sotheby’s team on this exciting auction in support of our mission to fight AIDS and COVID-19,” said Jen Lotito, (RED) President and Chief Operating Officer.
The red and white pair, a men’s size 9 UK, makes for a single-lot, online-only auction, with all proceeds going to the Global Fund’s lifesaving work. For those in New York, Sotheby’s is also offering viewings by appointment at its local galleries.
