Nonprofit organization Visual AIDS takes its highly anticipated Postcards from the Edge fundraiser entirely virtual this year, launching online today with a VIP preview. The sale will begin tomorrow, January 9, at 10 am online, where it will remain open through January 15.
A highlight event on the annual arts calendar, the sale features more than 1,000 postcard-sized works that are sold anonymously. Each priced at $85, the 4×6-inch creations have been imagined in a range of mediums of the artists’ choosing, including photography, textiles, collage, drawing, painting, and more. With contributions from names like Camille Henrot, Margo Margolis, Michael Chandler, Caroline Blum, Polly Apfelbaum, Jessica Ziegler, Susanne Tierney, and Catherine Opie, the artist’s names are disclosed only after purchase, signed on the back of the work.
“The silver lining to this year’s virtual event is being able to invite more arts enthusiasts from all over the U.S. to join us for this special event and work together to raise funds so that we can continue our AIDS activism work and support artists living with HIV,” said Esther McGowan, Executive Director of Visual AIDS. The 23rd edition of the annual Postcards from the Edge benefit will see works purchased through an e-commerce site and shipped to patrons at the close of the sale. An accompanying auction of larger works is also live on Artsy, open for bidding through January 22.
