Inspired by the Breva, a wind that blows over the region of the Lake Como in Northern Italy, a brand of the same name in Geneva was founded on the idea of creating a mechanical timepieces that forecast the weather.
From this unique idea, the Breva Génie 01 was born, developed exclusively by Jean-François Mojon (Chronode). Launched in 2013 by Breva CEO and watch aficionado Vincent Dupontreué, Genie 01 is the world’s first wristwatch that is able to display time, altitude, and weather.
Thanks to its barometer and altimeter, both located within the watch’s core, the timepiece is able to make a precise evaluation on air pressure, thus predicting the weather (rising pressure indicating good weather coming while falling pressure is a sign of inclement weather ahead). The watch’s elegant and artistic design displays a smoky-sapphire sub dial at 8 o’clock, an engraved compass rose, (an icon found throughout Génie 01) and a sapphire crystal display back.
This year, Génie 02 Air and Génie 02 Terre were created, focusing this time on high-performance mechanical altimeters to bring the timepiece experience to another level.
