This week during Art Basel in Miami Beach, The Miami Beach EDITION hosted cocktails and dinner to honor Tina Girouard‘s seminal performance piece Pinwheel at Art Basel’s brand new Meridians sector. Girouard is an American performance and video artist best known as part of the post-minimalist movement in downtown New York in the 60’s and 70’s. The original staging of Pinwheel made its debut in the Great Hall of the New Orleans Museum of Art in 1977 as part of the exhibition “Five From Louisiana,” alongside the works of Lynda Benglis, Robert Rauschenberg, Richard Landry, and Keith Sonnier. Presented by Anat Ebgi Gallery of Los Angeles, it is the only live performance at the fair this year.
The evening, sponsored wholly by the EDITION, heralded the triumphant return of Girouard, through the meticulous restaging of this major performance with local dancers and performers from Sabrina Talamo‘s Second Tunnel Movement dance company.
