Finding ourselves in Los Angeles for the very first edition of Whitewaller Los Angeles is a great way to start the year! This edition marks the debut of the highly anticipated Frieze Los Angeles art fair, taking place at the Paramount Pictures Studios New York Backlot film set. The newest edition of the contemporary art fair coincides with Felix LA.
We are lucky to have the man behind wHY Architecture and Frieze Los Angeles’s on-site structure, Kulapat Yantrasast, as the issue’s guest editor. He tells us what he loves about calling L.A. home, and what he’s looking forward to seeing and doing this winter around town.
Sharing with us their expertly honed knowledge of the city are Insiders like Lee Quiñones (who has a show at Charlie James Gallery), Shepard Fairey, Stefan Simchowitz, and more!
In addition to speaking with Bettina Korek and Victoria Siddall—the visionaries behind Frieze Los Angeles—we caught up with artists like Tschabalala Self, who has a show at the Hammer, and Evan Holloway, who has new works on view at David Kordansky, and got a look inside the studio of Thomas Houseago, who has found a much more amenable amount of space in which to create sculpture since moving to L.A. We also chatted with Chef Ludo of Trois Mec and gallerist François Ghebaly, and visited the home of collector Alberto Chehebar.
All this week on the site you’ll find all you need to know about the fairs, the exhibitions on view this week that are a definite must-see, plus the best restaurants, hotels, bars, and stores for fine dining, relaxing, and kicking back.
