It feels good to be back in Miami! Fall is flying by, we must admit, and we’re excited for this last burst of fairs, events, and exhibitions before a break for the holidays. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll make it to the beach this year, too!
We are so thrilled to have YoungArts’ Sarah Arison back as the guest editor of Whitewaller Miami 2019. In our opinion, there is no one better to guide us and you through what to expect in Miami Beach this December.
First up—what we’re all here for—are the fairs, and we’ve got you covered on all you need to know, insight into special projects
and programming, and the first-time participants to look out for. You’ll find an interview with the new director of PULSE, Cristina Salmastrelli, and with the curator of a new section at Art Basel in Miami Beach, Magalí Arriola.
Whitewaller also caught up with the Miami-based artist Troy Simmons, found out what Jonathan Trayte has planned for Design Miami/, heard from Mera Rubell about the new Rubell Museum, and spoke with major collector Jorge M. Pérez about his new art space. We also hear from Miami Insiders like Yvonne Force Villareal and Doreen Remen, Zoe Lukov, Ximena Caminos, and Silvia Karman Cubiñá.
In addition to our must-see exhibition listings, in our lifestyle sections you’ll find details on all the best places to stay, where to eat, and how to enjoy a nightcap nearby. Don’t miss our “Whitewaller recommends” suggestions either.
Special sections on the Miami Design District and Palm Beach—for the second edition of New Wave Art Wknd—round out the issue, which is just the right size to carry with you throughout Miami Art Week.
See you out there! And don’t forget your SPF.
