Open this week in San Francisco is FOG Design+Art Fair (January 17-20) and Untitled (January 18-20). For those traveling to the city for the fair, we’ve put together a list of top shops to visit while in town.
gather
Husband-and-wife duo Christian and Daisy McClellan opened gather to bring their unique experiences and skills—Daisy is a jewelry designer and Christian a legal consultant—to selling their goods as well as those of other local and indie artists. “We want to create an engaging shopping experience that provides a meaningful connection to the craftsmen and women whose creations we offer,” said the McClellans.
Whitewaller recommends: Attending monthly events, such as workshops and trunk shows.
Hero Shop
Founder Emily Holt, a former Vogue fashion news editor and a Bay Area native, opened Hero Shop in San Francisco in 2016. Combining global fashion ideas, local talent, and passion and compassion for the community, the store provides a friendly environment full of ready-to-wear, jewelry, shoes, bags, home, and gift and tech items from established designers and emerging local brands.
Whitewaller recommends: Perusing the new pieces by Rosie Assoulin, Edie Parker, Myriam Schaefer, and Culk.
Voyager
In addition to its Los Angeles location, The Voyager Shop—with Voyager San Francisco and Revolver by Voyager—focuses on providing contemporary fashion and homeware goods. The store specializes in sourcing exceptional items from around the world in a fun collaborative environment from a Californian perspective.
Whitewaller recommends: Stopping by for pop-ups with local artists and makers.
Benny Gold
The Benny Gold brand started with a small sticker over a decade ago, and has since grown to include this flagship store and seasonal collections. From hats and tees to cut-and-sew and accessories, skate decks, collaborations, and more, the founder wanted the new space to tell that story, and to “foster a creative community around the shop.”
Whitewaller recommends: Shopping, hanging out, and sharing ideas.
Mill Mercantile
Focused on authenticity, quality construction, and effortless design, Mill Mercantile offers seasonal selections of clothing, home goods, accessories, and more. Stylish and unique, the boutique has been establishing an aesthetic that is truly distinct from its foundation in 2012.
Whitewaller recommends: Trying on new pieces by Folk, Toujours, and Eidos.
Park Life
This independent retail store and art gallery showcases art and design that is relevant and exciting. Since its inception in 2006 by founders Jamie Alexander and Derek Song, Park Life has featured art and design products culled from all over the world. Rare, limited-edition, and unique items include art and design books and photography prints, modern design objects, clothing, home goods, jewelry, original art, and more.
