Why Marram Montauk Is Still the Ultimate East End Escape 5 Years On

Step into the Hamptons sand and explore Marram Montauk—a windswept destination shaped by creative programming, wellness activations, and an urge to slow down.

Since its opening along the windswept dunes of Long Island’s easternmost tip, Marram Montauk has quietly redefined coastal luxury. Now celebrating its fifth anniversary, the barefoot boutique resort is marking the milestone with a curated slate of experiences and activations that speak to its DNA—a combination of thoughtful design, art, nature, and well-being. Now in its fifth anniversary season, Marram is honoring its roots with a collection of thoughtfully curated programming and partnerships that capture its spirit of artful retreat and refined calm.

This summer’s anniversary offerings are anchored by a returning collaboration with multifaceted artist Sean Spellman, whose work helped define Marram’s visual identity from the start. Spellman, a Rhode Island-based musician and artist, originally created more than 120 abstract landscapes for the resort—works that continue to echo the soft tones and meditative pace of Montauk’s wild shores. “Lately, I’ve been trying to figure out a way to communicate what I’ve communicated for so long via music with visual art,” Spellman shared with Whitewall. “With music, if you’re in a tropical place, you start being influenced by the music there—Cuban music in Cuba or Hawaiian music in Hawaii. So, it’s cool thinking about that visually, too, because it’s more literal.”

For the anniversary, Spellman has curated an exclusive guest-only gallery exhibition on-site, presenting new pieces inspired by the area’s unique natural beauty. “Everything here is pretty Montauk inspired,” the artist said. “The aesthetics of this property are so aligned with my own so it’s easy. That’s why I love working with Marram. My house in Rhode Island looks similar to this; I’d design my home like this. It all really fits and is easy to figure out.”

He is also debuting a wooden surfboard sculpture—both a nod to Montauk’s storied surf culture and a symbolic tribute to the traditional five-year anniversary gift of wood—that will be a permanent installation at the resort. The solid wood piece was shaped by Jon Wegener in Encinitas, CA, and adorned with a Dremel-carved sunset by Spellman. “His brother, Tom, is one of the most prominent surfboard shavers in the world right now, and I wanted to get one of his boards, but the shipping is crazy from Australia, so I reached out to Jon, and he said, ‘I’ve got this great board,’ and it worked out perfectly,” said Spellman.

A Dedication to Craft and Excellence

Beyond its artistic legacy, Marram continues to deepen its connection to nature and the environment with the introduction of the SWAROVSKI OPTIK x Marram Marine Program. Developed in collaboration with the legendary optics brand, the initiative allows guests to engage with Montauk’s rich coastal ecosystem through high-powered binoculars and a fixed ST Vista scope.

From spotting migratory whales to seabirds and seals, visitors can observe marine life in crisp detail. Marine biologist Ryan Mahoney has curated an educational guide for guests, and private sessions—such as guided whale watching and hands-on marine biology lessons—are also available, making this a meaningful new way to explore the East End’s natural treasures.

“We opened Marram in April 2020 with the intent of bringing a fresh boutique resort experience to Montauk,” said Philip Cham, Director of Hospitality at Bridgeton Development Group, Marram’s parent company. “To celebrate our fifth anniversary, we’re unveiling new offerings, strengthening partnerships with brands that have been with us since the beginning, and welcoming new ones like SWAROVSKI OPTIK to create even more meaningful memories.”

New Cabanas, New Oceanside Atmospheres

In the spirit of luxurious simplicity, Marram has also added five new ocean-view cabanas, creating elevated hideaways around its serene pool deck. One of the cabanas is the result of a collaboration with Italian linen house Frette, complete with the brand’s premium linens, beach towels, and accessories. Guests can further customize their cabana experience with curated add-ons, from cocktail coolers by YETI to Naturopathica skincare mists, or opt for occasion-specific packages geared toward engagements or bachelorette parties.

Longtime amenity partner Le Labo returns, as well, offering an exclusive VIP fragrance experience that includes a hand pomade, lip balm, and the iconic Discovery Set, encouraging guests to find their own olfactory ritual while relaxing out east. And in a thoughtful gesture of gratitude, Marram is inviting its original 2020 guests to claim a complimentary surf lesson with the Engstrom siblings, who continue to run the resort’s beloved surf shack.

That ethos of curated experience continues through Marram’s signature offerings—sunrise yoga, bonfires with s’mores, surf lessons from professional surfer Leif Engstrom, creative workshops, and Retrospec cruiser bikes—inviting guests to explore scenic bluffs at Shadmoor State Park or visit the historic lighthouse at Camp Hero. In every detail, the resort remains true to its original vision: being a place to slow down, reconnect, and rediscover the art of simple living.
