Alejandra Alonso Rojas is not the type of designer to loose her cool under fashion week pressure—even when the power goes out the morning of her New York Fashion Week presentation. “We’re shooting the look book and the presentation at the same time,” said Rojas. “I like it. The set is very similar, and you get to shoot more looks also. It’s exciting.”

Aside from her calm demeanor, the inspiration she gains from her heritage and upbringing in Madrid, coupled with the implementation of artisanal fabrics and modern techniques, has landed her label A Moi another spot at this year’s New York Fashion Week for the fifth time. At the presentation set in a studio within Industria Superstudios, A Moi premiered their fall/winter 2016 collection “Rhythm”—a Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic of garments based on geometric shapes and modern silhouettes.

Triangles, circles, and squares form unique patterns with the use of offbeat fabric techniques, and a subtle color palette allows for accents of colors to enhance the designs and materials.

“The knits and the leather are definitely the most powerful about A Moi and the collection this season. All of the knitwear is hand crocheted here in New York,” said Rojas. “Another really beautiful characteristic of the collection this season is that I have experimented with hand felting, so fabrics are kind of connected. We’ve done it in leather, hand-woven, and the coat with the stripes, and in other pieces in the collection as well. It’s exciting. It’s really difficult, but it looks wonderful,” she said.

Intended to be simple and practical, A Moi’s “Rhythm” defends the rule of symmetry, and supports the rebellion of juxtapositions—a style worthy of any experimental dresser.
