For the past 13 years, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have been co-designing some seriously sweet ready-to-wear styles for their funky fresh luxe label Opening Ceremony (OC). Fashion lovers across the globe, while vying for a front-row seat to their flavorful shows, have noted their ever-morphing look, but still can’t peg them down.

Each season, they choose a refreshing new take at something that, perhaps, was once easily overlooked. In 2014, they focused on the Belgian port city Antwerp’s sophistication, and recently, they put Spike Jones’ edgy Kodak Polaroid pictures to use on playful, graphic garments. Although we were heavily prepared to expect the unexpected, they dance to the beat of a different drum in their new colossal resort collection.

Through an innumerable amount of paired looks, puppy prints, laser-cut leather, and decadent suede and rubber duos, the resort 2016 collection offers something rich for the neighborhood’s suburbia queen. If you glance at the garments from afar, swirls and stamps of vibrant olive greens, cobalt blues, and orange-red hues blend together in pops of discrete detail. From automobiles to landscapes, and from multidimensional patterns to graphic tees, the playful line has an enormous array of highlights.

An illustrated version of a shaggy Komondor is seen on sateen fabric in both a long and short dress, and its sister sweater has puppy frills of fabric that are soft to the touch. T-shirts displaying messages like “OC Kennel Club” and “Frise, I’m a Bichon!” pair perfectly with their leather and suede Dalmatian print heel. There are platform sandals, aluminum heels, and plenty of hardware accents on all of the footwear clasps. Flushes of reversible faux fur and leather stand out in their Reversible Culver Coat for the cold months ahead. Matching structured pants don patterns that vaguely resemble suburban life—tall hedges, or even boxy images of people, are seen jumbled among the rest. On outerwear, we see double-breasted closures replaced with large locking clasps, and accompanying mini pockets make a not-so-mini statement. There are matching leopard-patterned handbags, wallets, and clutches, also in the suede and rubber pigment printed duo, that close with a nifty new clasp of a dainty, red-manicured hand.
