Milan’s Salone del Mobile, running through April 17, provided Baccarat with the perfect place to reveal its new lighting collection “Lumières Out of The Box,” designed by Hans Van Bentem, Arik Levy, and Marcel Wanders, as well as a prodigious collaboration with Maurice Ostro, entrepreneur of Gemstone Minerals world famous for its amazing blue gems.

The new pieces of lighting are deployed within the legendary walls of the Fine Arts Academy of Brera, and each piece is presented inside a colossal wooden box. These timbered containers are larger versions of those used for centuries in the transportation of Baccarat chandeliers. Gathered with sculptures and casts in the Sala Napoleonica, “Out of the Box” promises an enchantingly modern interpretation of the fine crystal maison’s 250 years of heritage and history.

For the occasion Van Bentem is presenting Medicis XXL, an authentic masterpiece made of 13,000 octagons, that translates the original marble Medicis vase of the classical period and its crystal 1909 version made by Baccarat.

Levy multiplied his iconic Tuile de Cristal chandelier in a multitude of new forms, colors, designs and architectural solutions.

Wanders debuted the Roi Soleil, a spherical chandelier that decomposes the historical Baccarat Zenith candlestick into a sun of light.

Finally, the collaboration of Baccarat and Ostro resulted in Blue Topaz, the first Baccarat chandelier made with precious stones. Over 700 blue ostrotopaz gemstones meet thousands of crystal octagons in a magnificent and unique jewel, dedicated to Max Ostro, a passionate collector of Baccarat who dreamed to realise this masterpiece.
