All this week on the site we’re covering the exhibitions, events, and happenings around the fairs taking place in Los Angeles this week. Here’s Whitewaller Los Angeles‘ ultimate guide to this year’s editions of Art Los Angeles Contemporary, LA Art Show, and stARTup Art Fair.

Art Los Angeles Contemporary (January 25-28)
The international contemporary art fair of the West Coast, Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC) is now in its ninth year. Taking place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, ALAC brings together an international group of emerging and established galleries.

“The balance between emerging and more established galleries is what defines ALAC as an international platform for contemporary art in Los Angeles. It’s this spirit that carries forward in all we do at the Hangar and throughout the city, from the performances and lectures to the VIP program that is built around the energy and enthusiasm that our galleries, collectors, and institutional partners provide,” said director Tim Fleming.

Visitors can expect to see at the 2018 edition a focus on Latin America and gender equality. Look for work by Laeh Glenn at Altman Siegel Gallery, Nikolay Koshelev at Lazy Mike, Blake Rayne at 1301PE, Maja Djordjevic at The Hole, Rodrigo Valenzuela at Klowden Mann, Ginny Casey at MIER GALLERY, and Honggoo Kang at ONE AND J.

LA Art Show (January 23-27)
This is the 23rd annual showcase of The LA Art Show. Taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, it is the city’s largest international art fair. This year sees a new partnership with The Museum of the Arts of Guadalajara and the Museum of Latin American Art.

More than100 galleries will present work from over 18 countries with a focus on China, Japan, France, the U.K., and Mexico. Galleries like Patrick Painter, Timothy Yarger, and SM Fine Art return. The historical section ROOTS includes presentations from MS Rau Antiques, Rehs Galleries, and Maxwell Alexander. Littletopia focuses on an emerging, lowbrow scene, while DESIGN LA—new this year—looks at art, decor, jewelry, and other functional art objects.

The fair is working with LACMA, the Autry Museum of the American West, and the Museum of Latin American Art on special programming during the week. The Opening Night Preview and Premiere Party benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

stARTup Art Fair LA (January 26-28)
stARTup Art Fair is a unique boutique fair, founded by artist Ray Beldner and former gallery director Steve Zavattero. Its mission is to provide an exhibition venue for independent artists to present and sell work.

This third edition of the fair takes place at The Kinney Venice Beach, a new hotel less than a mile from Marina del Rey and the boardwalk. This year’s selection committee is made up of artists, curators, and gallery directors like Diana Al-Hadid, Andi Campognone, Nathaly Charria, and George Lawson.

Last year’s edition included work from over 100 artists as well as local nonprofits. Said artist Nancy Willis, “stARTup Art Fair brings new vitality to the art fair scene, delivering a value added experience for both the viewer and the artist. The hotel turns into a collaborative installation, pulsing with creative energy while putting some FUN back into FAIR.”
