This week, Art Basel 2025 (June 16–22) is open to the public at Messeplatz, Messe Basel. For this special edition, the exterior of the building was transformed into an art piece itself by the German artist Katharina Grosse. Created using an industrial spray gun, the large-scale piece, CHOIR, features waves of bright magenta, disrupting the familiar space of Messeplatz with a new, unexpected reality. Here, we take a behind-the-scenes look at how Grosse immerses visitors in a transformative experience, where they’re simultaneously looking at the work and becoming part of it, like participants in an unscripted performance.
