Titled as a playful reference to himself as well as the Egyptian city, Alejandro Cardenas’s “ALEXANDRIA” features the artist’s most recent series of paintings and sculptures in his first exhibition with Almine Rech. Painting for the first time in 2019, the Los Angeles-based artist has imagined a series of anthropomorphic forms that illustrate an intriguing story of a surrealist post-human world, in which faceless bodies composed of zigzag patterns or plant matter interact with their interior settings.
