In 2017, Aurelia Demark launched her eponymous jewelry brand following the birth of her first daughter. Once a costume fashion jewelry merchandiser for Tory Burch in New York, Denmark felt inspired to create bespoke feminine jewelry to honor life’s greatest milestones. Today, the brand’s jewelry is handmade in New York and on display in her South Floridian showroom-cum-office-space. To commemorate New Wave Art Weekend in Palm Beach, Whitewall asked Demark where she finds inspiration in Palm Beach and where she goes to see art.
WHITEWALL: What’s the best spot to find inspiration in Palm Beach?
AURELIA DEMARK: Inspiration is everywhere; ideas can come from anything that resonates with me. Whether it’s beach walks with my family or trailing my kids scootering on the Lake Trail and I happen to pass by an old iron gate that intrigues me. Nature is always inspiring. Our Coral pendant was inspired by a piece of coral I found on the beach. Our Bloom ring was inspired by the large leaves of the sea grape trees that are everywhere in Palm Beach. There’s a console table in our studio that was inspired by the wavy beach wall at the end of Worth Avenue. I’m always taking photos of things that resonate wherever I go—and usually a jewelry piece will include a few different motifs from things I’ve seen.

WW: What’s the best off-the-beaten-path place to see art?
AD: The Norton Museum’s sculpture garden is wonderful. Taking a boat on the Intracoastal can also give you a glimpse of amazing art in gardens, and you can also see some beautiful murals underneath the bridges.
WW: What’s Palm Beach’s best-kept secret?
AD: Getting lost at Show Pony among their furniture, art, and objects. Walk along Dixie Highway and you’ll be drawn to so many wonderful stores. Authentic Provence is an incredibly well curated store for French antiques and beautiful pieces for your garden. I could live there. Feeling hungry? The tuna salad sandwich on rye bread at Surfside Diner will hit the spot.

The Norton Museum’s sculpture garden exploits South Florida’s subtropical climate and outdoor lifestyle to create an extension of traditional gallery spaces via “garden rooms” that are proportioned and aligned with the strong axis of the original 1941 gallery design and brought to life by the movement of the plantings and the play of shadows. – The Norton Museum
