BANG BANG

“BANG BANG” is a festival of performance art, presented by Revolving Histories/Performance Chronik and Museum Tinguely, currently on view through August 21. The process-oriented exhibition fully embraces the Swiss performance scene, accompanied by a vibrant and ambitious international program. The rich history of the medium is presented in an array of video installations, performances, photos, and texts. “BANG BANG” is subdivided into seven thematic chapters; Saga, Emancipation from the Medium, On the Radical Equivalence of Experience, The Fleeting Act, Social Elegance, Live Transmission, and Freckly Night debut live on seven weekends, engaging audiences, artists, scholars, and the museum.

Says Séverine Fromaigeat, Museum Tinguely curator: “The exhibition seeks to be fluid and changeable, not to deliver conclusive historical answers, but to address the questions that are currently of concern to the genre. As an art form in which various artistic disciplines overlap, performance has become the medium of choice for several generations of artists. Now very much in the public eye, it is a discipline that enables the instantaneous expression of aesthetic, social, and political demands. By nature experimental, performance art can be provocative and loud, or subtle and enigmatic. It is an ephemeral art form—incredibly alive and unpredictable.”
