B&B Italia: Le Bambole by Mario Bellini

For Milan Design Week, B&B Italia presents a reimagining of “Le Bambole,” the innovative upholstered furniture collection first designed by Mario Bellini in 1972. Fifty years later, these cozy, plush, and playful centerpieces of Italian design have become radically comfortable and radically sustainable. The collection arranges its original elements—the armchair, the two-seater, and three-seater sofa, and the double-bed–seemingly at random, representative of the unpredictable and elastic changes in early-’70s daily life, while the metal frames within the padding ensure the solidity and depth of each Bambola.

Bellini said, speaking on the project, “I feel the pleasure of revisiting this family again, because it confirms to me that it is anything but aged; on the contrary, it is enjoying a thriving and promising second life, a rebirth done in a big way, done with enthusiasm, with breadth, with decorations and with the original flourishes. We have recovered its charm, its sumptuous floridity, its softness.”
