In Fondation Beyeler’s exhibition “CLOSE-UP,” the institution is sharing the work of nine women artists, who put a focus on the human form through portraits and self-portraits. Including Frida Kahlo, Alice Neel, Berthe Morisot, Mary Cassatt, Marlene Dumas, Cindy Sherman, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Lotte Laserstein, and Elizabeth Peyton, the show looks back on a time when women artists first began to work professionally, around the 1870s, following the shifts and evolution of portraiture up through the current day.
