Theodora Allen: Light Pollution

Katy Donoghue

16 September 2020

Los Angeles-based artist Theodora Allen’s new solo exhibition is on view at 12.26.  “Light Pollution” features seven paintings from the artist’s series entitled “Moth to the Light: A Sequence” (2020). The compositions offer emblematic representations of various natural phenomena and forms, from moon and moths, to flames and molecular geometry. The paintings follow Allen’s signature process-based approach, where each canvas distills its run-like appearance through light-emancipating formalism. The show draws the viewer into a space where the language of colour and fire are intertwined through an elemental color palette, culturally, and emotionally tracing the history of vision.
