David Driskell: Icons of Nature and History

The High Museum of Art is showing a nationally touring exhibition entitled “David Driskell: Icons of Nature and History,” co-organized with the Portland Museum of Art, Maine. Presenting approximately 60 paintings and works on paper, it shows the span of the artist’s practice over seven decades and highlights his recognizable style and use of collage. Presenting approximately 60 paintings and works on paper, it shows the span of the artist’s practice over seven decades and highlights his recognizable style and use of collage. Imagery found within his work combines the Black American experience with his observations of the American landscape and the African diaspora. As the first major survey of Driskell’s work since his death in April 2020 at age 88, the exhibition begins at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta before traveling to the Portland Museum of Art (June 19–September 12, 2021), The Phillips Collection (October 6, 2021–January 9, 2022) and the Cincinnati Art Museum (February 25–May 15, 2022).
