Do You See Me

Opening February 17, albertz benda Los Angeles presents a group exhibition named “Do You See Me,” spotlighting the artists Dustin Harwood, Lanise Howard, Larissa De Souza, Natalie Wadlington, Robert Peterson, and Sydnie Jiminez. The exhibition takes on the constant search for identity through complex social and political landscapes by way of sculpture, painting, and collage. Inspired by Mesoamerican pottery, Jiminez challenges our Eurocentric culture through expressive sculptures of racially ambiguous young people. Wadlington illustrates fractured states of being by situating her figures in geometric, colorful outdoor spaces. And in preservation of her Afro-Brazilian heritage, de Souza contemplates modern femininity and familial bonds through the layering of fabric and embroidery on acrylic paintings.
