On view at UTA Artist Space is “Emergency On Planet Earth: In A Time Close To Now,’’ an exhibition addressing the environmental and human impact of our present times. Named after Jamiroquai’s 1993 song “Emergency on Planet Earth,’’ the exhibition sends out an SOS, through video, sculpture, painting and photography, that weave together a tapestry of our times. “Emergency On Planet Earth: In A Time Close To Now,’’ showcases works by Ai Weiwei, Clayton Calvert, Nathan Wong, Ellen Page, Rob Reynolds, and more. Exhibition highlights include Power, To Overcome, The Police, We Shall, Make Love, Over Profits, a new work by Glenn Kaino made from discarded wood from protests signs and water vapour from the tears of protesters; The Word for Weather is Knowledge, a visual exploration of climate change by Reynolds and Toni Scott’s sculpture Eve, which serves as a reminder of the power and majesty of Black Woman.
