Jacopo Benassi‘s “Past” is on view at Francesca Minini through April 17, 2021. The solo exhibition features black-and-white prints, capturing fish underwater, as well as a large-scale multi-media installation. The artist lives and works by the ocean, and its presence is clearly influential on his practice. Photographed at night in Monterosso, under storied cliffs near Benassi’s home, they feel otherworldly. As Mariuccia Casadio describes for the show the series as, “A merzbau of discoveries, suggestions, and inspirations in two and three dimensions, which mirrors and interprets his way of living and seeing. That universe between genos and thanatos, eros and transgressions, culture and nature, which defines and inexorably feeds his artistic imagery.”
