The most recent products of Jenny Holzer’s language-based creative practice can be seen at Hauser & Wirth’s New York gallery from September 8—October 29 in an exhibition titled “DEMENTED WORDS.” Examining our experiences in areas like power, joy, violence, despair, and idealism, to name a few, viewers will find Holzer’s featured works dealing with the present moment, highlighting some of the absurdities in our current and recent political climate. Encompassed in the show is the central hanging WTF, in which an electronic sign laden with quotes from Donald Trump and the leader of the QAnon conspiracy swings to the erratic rhythm that the words appeared online, as well as multimedia paintings, and the artist’s stamped metal “curse tablets,” which stemmed from the Roman tradition of seeking revenge through inscribed lead tablets.
