Opening on February 7, Proyectos Monclova presents a new exhibition by Mexican artist Josué Mejía titled, “Pase Ud. Hasta nuestros días (Come on in, into our times),” on view through April 1. Through the compelling art of archival renewal, Mejía invokes the 1940 exhibition “Twenty Centuries of Mexican Art,” which debuted at MoMA in New York instead of the originally planned Paris due to risks surrounding WWII. In a comprehensive investigation of historic texts and press releases, the artist challenges the Mexican government’s narrative of the development of national art, all while creatively offering alternative stories and criticism through drawings and frescoes.
