Opening September 6 at Perrotin is “Flora and Fauna,” an exhibition of new stoneware sculptures and lush drawings from Klara Kristalova, on view through October 22. The artist’s otherworldly figures, as petite as nine inches and as grand as four feet, range from emotional to emotionless, glazed and tinted in moody shades of black, blue, and green. From her studio just outside of Stockholm, Sweden, Krtistalova invokes the magic of the Nordic forest and the drama of the evolving seasons. Human, animal, and the natural world are one in the same, as illustrated by the artist’s newest works; ceramic sculpture Horsegirl and Expectations reveals a horse with seductive and secretive female eyes, while growth rings enhance the female body, and branches grow from the hands, in watercolor Woodwalker.
