Anne Imhof: Avatar II

Katy Donoghue

11 October 2022

From September 23—December 23, Anne Imhof takes over the London gallery of Sprüth Magers with her exhibition “Avatar II”. In a first for the gallery, Imhof has filled all four floors of exhibition space, ensuring that the installation itself is as much art as the individual works (which include everything from oil paintings to film works to compilations of gym equipment). As is often the tone set by the artist, viewers will find themselves navigating an uncanny dystopia where labyrinths of gym lockers and glass facades reveal creations like the artist’s “scratch” paintings, drawings depicting bodies in motion, and portraits and videos featuring the artist’s collaborator, Eliza Douglas.
