Carpenters Workshop Gallery debuts the first solo West Coast exhibition of the leading Dutch artist and designer Maarten Baas, titled “PLAY TIME.” On view through May 13, the lively show includes the new series Children’s Clocks, part of the “Real Time” series, which consists of 101 dreamlike pieces crafted from clay. In full creative immersion, Baas worked with 720 children in the Netherlands, inspiring them to develop drawings over 720 minutes based on the hands of the clock. Imagery of the children’s creations is held within the limited edition collection in colorful, glazed hues of orange, pink, green, yellow, and turquoise. “My work is often a self-portrait of my inner journey,” said Baas. “Finding a balance between the wisdom you gain and the open-mindedness you lose along the way.”
