Tala Madani: Biscuits

Tala Madani’s “Biscuits” at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA is the artist's first North American survey and spans nearly 20 years of work.

September 10, 2022 - February 19, 2023

Visitors in town for Frieze Week shouldn’t miss the last chance to see Tala Madani’s exhibition “Biscuits,” on view at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA through February 19. Madani’s first North American survey, the presentation of the Iranian-born, Los Angeles-based artist brings together almost two decades of paintings and animations. Madani’s practice employs devices like humor, irony, and even repulsion to touch upon the disturbing absurdities of current social dynamics and the relationship between contemporary geopolitics and art history—a compilation of elements that is particularly relevant and relatable in the present moment. Featured in the show are works dating from the present back to 2005, including unpublished sketchbook drawings, Madani’s “Shit Mom” series, and a new suite of monumental paintings called “Cloud Mommies”.
